Inspired by wood block printing

Wood block printing is one of India’s oldest art forms and it is recognized worldwide. Different types of dyes and patterns are used within different regions of the country. Wood block printing originated in China about 4000 years ago, and then reached India soon after. It became an integral part of Indian textiles and its use in China diminished. Designs are carved on wooden blocks, covered in ink, and lastly printed on fabric. Different blocks are made for the outline of a design and each color in the design.
